President Bola Tinubu declared on Monday that his drive to build a prosperous Nigeria has grown stronger, following a spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia where he entered the Holy Ka’abah to offer prayers.
Speaking in Makkah, the Nigerian leader stated that his supplications during the Umrah pilgrimage focused heavily on securing divine wisdom and resilience to guide the nation. He expressed confidence that his prayers had been answered.
“Well, I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that prayer has been granted,” Tinubu told reporters.
The President expressed profound gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for granting him and his delegation access to the sacred site. He remarked that the interior fencing of the Ka’abah featured green, white, and green colors, creating a touching visual reminder of the Nigerian identity.
Reflecting on Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26 of the Holy Qur’an, Tinubu emphasized that political authority is a sacred trust from Almighty Allah that must be exercised with humility and dedication to public welfare. He described his presidency as a humbling privilege given the nation’s vast population.
“Out of many millions of people, to be the President and Commander-in-Chief is a favour that only Almighty God can do to a human being,” he said.
Turning to domestic affairs, the President expressed strong optimism regarding Nigeria’s economic trajectory. He maintained that the groundwork established by his administration is solid and that the nation’s economy has turned a crucial corner.
“The foundation is solid, and the economy has come out of the dark tunnel. This is inspiring,” Tinubu stated.
He also stressed the imperative of heavy investment in the country’s youth, cautioning that contemporary policy decisions will define how future generations judge today’s leadership.
The high-level Nigerian delegation accompanying the President included Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and several state governors, alongside prominent business leaders such as BUA Group Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu and Oando Chief Executive Officer Wale Tinubu.
